The Levantehaus was built in 1912/1913 according to the plans drawn up by the architects Franz Bach and Carl Gustav Bensel (facade) and was used as a mercantile office building on Hamburg’s Mönckebergstrasse. With its architecture comprising elements of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and tasteful brickwork, it is one of Hamburg’s most important mercantile office buildings.
Since being converted in 1995–1997, the Levantehaus has been home to high-end boutiques, manufactories, catering establishments and a luxurious 5-star hotel and therefore combines its historic mercantile office building character with diverse modern uses.
A lease was concluded with MHP Hotel AG at the end of 2022, which now operates the hotel under the Conrad Hotels & Resorts brand belonging to Hilton Worldwide.
The Conrad boasts a total of 283 guest rooms, studios and suites, extensive public areas, a restaurant, a bar, several conference rooms and a generous spa area with Hamburg’s largest indoor pool.
Construction started at the beginning of 2024 and was completed after 18 months, with re-opening taking place in September 2025.
The guest rooms, including the bathrooms and corridors, were redesigned in keeping with the high-quality of the existing building. The public areas were extensively renovated. The building’s central technical systems, the IT and media technology and the fire protection facilities were completely refurbished and renewed.
As part of its project management services, hp developments undertook comprehensive project management and coordination of the various trades and suppliers. hp developments was additionally responsible for all FF&E procurement.
The first Conrad Hotel in Germany not only marked an important step in the worldwide expansion of the brand for Hilton, but also optimally equipped the Levantehaus to sustainably enhance its amenities and competitiveness and increase the comfort of its customers.
